Adria Bailton’s Worlds Divide (Balance of Seven, 2026) is a wonderful young adult sci-fi novel of love despite the odds centering a non-white young woman with a disability and touching heavily on mental health issues.
Nina has always been able to “slip” into other worlds, but it’s an ability she can’t control, leading to significant discord in her family life. In the past, she’s visited a variety of worlds, but after she meets Corey, she keeps going back to his world, and their connection blossoms into a relationship–but only on Tuesdays in his world.
Worlds Divide touches on a lot of heavy issues, and the novel includes significant content notes. The content is handled quite carefully but not downplayed, so it can be a difficult read for some. Nonetheless, Bailton has crafted a compelling story with standout characters who feel quite real.
If you enjoy young adult novels with romantic themes (though not explicit details) and a genuine frankness about disability and mental health issues, check out Worlds Divide when it releases April 17!
