History That Never Was

We’ve got a few more days until April begins, but it’s time for the writing prompts for April 2026!

This month, I’ve turned three art challenges into writing prompts.

Column 1 is from @veryberrydraws’ FreshARTpril 2025 prompt list. These prompts are all fruits and vegetables, but I think that when you combine them with the other prompts, they can be used in ways other than as their traditional form. If you get stuck on one, try thinking about things you associate with that fruit or vegetable. For example, for me, I have a memory of a failed blueberry pie I tried to make, so maybe I’d use that with the “blueberry” prompt.

Column 2 is Doodlewash’s April 2026 art challenge. These include a lot of spring and Easter related words, though some of them might be able to be turned into something other than that!

Column 3 is the @kidlitart_drawing_challenge April 2026 prompt list. These are phrases in most cases, but they conjure up some delightfully fantastical images. If you’re less interested in writing fantasy or something that might feel a bit more like a story for kids, you can always look at just a part of the phrase or find a way to turn it into something different!

Check back on the last Friday of each month (or occasionally the first day of a new month, when that falls on a Friday) for my History That Never Was writing prompts!
