Poetry in Chimerical Remembrance

Chimerical Remembrance has five poems included in it, alongside contemporary fantasy flash fiction and short stories. They cover a variety of topics, but many of them involve social commentary through a contemporary fantasy lens.

“The Cold, Strange Globe” was a poem inspired by an image of a glass sphere and a winter scene, which I took as a more literal idea of a place frozen inside such a sphere. “Janus,” on the other hand, was an opportunity to play with language, especially the idea of contronyms, which are also referred to as “Janus words.”

“Jade Chopsticks” takes a slightly fantastical look as the idea of grave good theft, which ties into the larger issues around museums that display cultural treasures of a country not their own. “Idle Icons are the Devil’s Work” is one of the few sonnets I’ve written. It’s presented somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but it looks at the very real issues of capitalism and productivity.

Finally, “Knowledge So Sweet” references Fahrenheit 451, but the resistance to book burning (or other destruction of knowledge) in this case involves magical candy making.

All five of these poems are only available in Chimerical Remembrance!
