Tips and Tricks for Online Readings

One of the panels I spoke on at Flights of Foundry was about tips and tricks for online readings. Learning to give good readings in person is one set of skills. Learning how to do so when you don’t have audience reactions to gauge how you’re doing can be exponentially more difficult.

Among other things, we talked about selecting pieces to read, how to pace a reading when you aren’t getting audience reactions, and whether it makes more sense to read from paper or your screen. In addition, we talked a little bit about readings in general, whether online or in person, including some tricks related to multiple characters in the same scene and more.

I shared the panel with a couple of teachers who also write fiction, and one of whom had a theatre background like me. Between the three of us, I think we managed to give folks a good bunch of advice and tips for when they want to do online readings.

This is one of the panels that will eventually be available through the Dream Foundry YouTube channel!
