“Strange Bedfellows” and “Texts from Upstate” in Chimerical Remembrance
The pairing of “Strange Bedfellows” and “Texts from Upstate” inĀ Chimerical Remembrance may seem a little odd. “Strange Bedfellows” is a rare non-speculative flash fiction piece from me, while “Texts from Upstate” is absolutely speculative flash. What they do have in common is queer women protagonists, some mystery, and a bit of humor.
“Strange Bedfellows” takes place on a cruise ship during a fashion show week, with the protagonist as a photographer turned amateur detective when she wakes up with a shoe in her bed and can’t figure out how it got there. This story is in first person, and I really enjoyed writing the narrator’s dry wit.
“Texts from Upstate” is a story told entirely through text messages, primarily the protagonist and her sister, as the former deals with a potential girlfriend seemingly ghosting her. I’ve always wanted to find a way to lay out this piece in the format of text messages, but I haven’t had the opportunity to do that yet!
Both of these stories are exclusive to Chimerical Remembrance, which is available as an ebook!
