History That Never Was

It’s May 1st, so it’s time for the May 2026 writing prompts!

This month, as always, we start off our list with the official MerMay 2026 prompts. There are a few this year that are geared very much toward an art style, but I think they’re still viable as writing prompts.

The second column is PasticheCoStudio’s Little Life May from 2025. This is a new source to me, and there are a couple on this list that refer reading and books. In those cases, maybe that can help inspire what you’re writing that day.

Finally, the third column is the Doodlewash May 2025 prompts, which I didn’t use last year. These are always good general prompts!

There’s one place where the columns overlap slightly, so I’ve marked those words with asterisks where they appear. As always, you can skip that prompt for one day, write on the same piece both days, or whatever works best for you!

Check back on the last Friday of each month (or occasionally the first day of a new month, when that falls on a Friday) for my History That Never Was writing prompts!
