“Dangers of the Deep” in Doorways in the Gloom

My story “Dangers of the Deep” is a flash fiction piece grown out of a prompt about, well, dangerous things underwater. Of course, that’s a favorite topic of mine, but in this particular story, it’s not any of the usual types of creatures I write about. Instead, it’s a tentacled monstrosity with no clear goal or plan other than drowning the protagonist. Unluckily for them, she’s pretty clever. Unluckily for her, the odds are stacked against her.

“Dangers of the Deep” is definitely one of my darker stories, filled with a tension that wouldn’t work in a longer story but works beautifully when constrained within the limits of flash. You can find it the Maelstroms anthology from Shacklebound Books and in my collection, Doorways in the Gloom!
