“Dead Souls” in Avatar of Freya

“Dead Souls” was a story that I wrote specifically for Cobalt City: Dragonstorm, a small anthology of stories about a dragon invasion of Cobalt City that the founder of the shared universe wanted to put together.

But the roots of the story came from an earlier Cobalt City story I’d written, “Double Angel,” which introduced Evan Sulla, aka Terra Firma, a young woman who wound up with weird shapeshifting powers after signing up for a medical experiment. She got MUCH more than she anticipated from that experiment, but once she became familiar with some of Cobalt City’s younger heroes, she teamed up with Friday Jones, aka Dulcamara, the Avatar of Freya.

Interestingly, the roots of “Double Angel” also were in an earlier Cobalt City story I wrote, “Comeback Tour,” in which Gray Dawn deals with a rather similar experimental facility to the one that changed Evan’s body. So “Dead Souls” is part of a long line of plot seeds I’ve strewn throughout the Cobalt City Universe. (“Dead Souls” also brings back a character from “Comeback Tour,” so it’s come full circle in a way.)

You can find “Dead Souls” in Cobalt City: Dragonstorm with other dragon invasion stories, or in Avatar of Freya with other Friday Jones/Dulcamara and Evan Sulla/Terra Firma stories.
