July 2021 Recap

Cat. In a box. Size of box never matters to Stormy.

By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 150
Acceptances received: 3
Rejections received: 94 (+1) (+4)
Stories withdrawn: 0
Resubmissions: 114
New Submissions: 6
Stories out at the end of the month: 173

Slight ramp up of submissions this month, even though it was a little slow on the rejection front. I had three pieces accepted–two short stories and a flash piece. “Gratitude” will appear at Silver Blade, “Under the Bed” will be in the YA volume of Cryptids Emerging, and “Fashion Statement” will appear at The Lorelei Signal.

I also finished six new pieces in July that have gone out on submission. One was a short story, one was a poem, and the other four are flash fiction (including one drabble).

In July, I completed my three flash pieces for contests (one hasn’t been revised for submissions yet) and wrote another flash piece (plus the poem, and plus another piece that hasn’t gone out yet). I finished writing grave and bookswap, revised werewolf and october, and wrote a book review. And I’m nearly done with everything for the DefCon One anthology.

In August, I plan to:

  • Write four more flash pieces for contests.
  • Write a new story (puppy).
  • Revise grave and bookswap.
  • Revise three of the contest entries.
  • Proof stories for an upcoming collection.
  • Write two book reviews.
  • Get the DefCon One anthology ready for September publication.

August is a little bit light, but we’ve got a house guest for the first half of the month, so that will slow things down a bit.
