The Chariot in A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages

The Chariot tarot card represents overcoming challenges and forward movement. In A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages, this is represented by a flash fiction piece and a poem.

“Refuge” is a flash fiction story about a person fleeing pursuers who finds an unusual location. The story takes place on a river, with the protagonist quite literally moving forward and also overcoming a pair of challenges. This story originally appeared in Home: What Is It and How Do I Get There?

The poem, which is original to this collection, is titled “The Marvels of Distant Places.” This poem was inspired by a Christian Schloe painting titled “The Quest,” in which a boat is pulled by butterflies on strings. Like much Christian Schloe art, it’s quite surreal, which lends itself well to the style of poetry I most like to write.

You can read both of these pieces in A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages, alongside other poems and stories reflecting each of the Major Arcana of the tarot!
