January 2021 Recap
By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 216
Acceptances received: 4
Rejections received: 106
Stories withdrawn: 1
Resubmissions: 83
New Submissions: 4
Stories out at the end of the month: 192
I’ve continued keeping stories in circulation as best as I can, though I feel like this month was a little slower with the rejections (this might just be a matter of perception, looking at the December 2020 numbers, however). I finished four new pieces in January: one poem, two flash pieces, and one short story. And I sold four pieces in January as well, three flash pieces (one a reprint) and a reprint short story.
In January, I finished proofreading Barren and sent that for layout. I’ve written a flash piece each weekend for the online contest, though I won’t revise and submit those until later. I finished the first draft of angel, which I’ll start revising soon. Instead of continuing on one of my Drawlloween stories, I came up with a new story idea, and that one has been steadily inching toward complete. And two of the stories that I got out in January were smile and goblin. (The third was one that I drafted at the end of December and was able to revise quickly.) And I wrote my three book reviews.
In February, I plan to:
- Write the last flash piece for the online contest.
- Finish the first draft of desperation (the new story I started in January).
- Work on the first draft of morgue (another Drawlloween story).
- Revise familiar and angel.
- Revise four of my flash pieces from the online contest.
- Write another new flash piece.
- Outline my next book (dreams).
- Write a book review.
- Freelance editing project.
This looks like an enormous amount of work. It may prove to be more than I want to tackle, but I’m going to at least try!
