Fun for Friday: My Big Pink Book Page for Prompt 13, Flowers
On Monday, I shared the blank version of the thirteenth prompt page in the Big Pink Book. Here’s what I did with mine!
I decided that the watercolor flower and the very even pink flowers had a bit of a contrast and thought about writing a story in which there’s technology that can make perfectly identical flowers. Then I took that a step further and thought about the machines making “reject” flowers that aren’t perfect (but are more similar to natural flowers, which are rarely identical).
I also came up with the idea to write the story as a catalog of rejected flowers and a couple of approaches I might take to that. Then (sideways, on the left-hand side of the page), I noted a few of the reasons why a machine-made flower might have been rejected, along with the note at the bottom, “but really ‘too uniform’ would be a better reason to reject.”
So ultimately, I think what will come out of this exercise is a story about human-made art and creativity, which seems like an extremely timely topic. So I suppose I’d better get this one started sooner rather than later!
Did you take this prompt in a different direction? I’d love to hear about it!
