“Progress” in This Book Has Ghosts in It
“Progress” is a flash fiction piece about a haunted mall … or is it?
The story begins: “Some people say the mall is haunted, but most of those people don’t know just how right they are. She’s not a ghost, though, just an unclassifiable being. She lives in the hidden spaces in the underbelly of the beast, and she consumes peoples’ dreams.” Though the story follows the fortunes of the mall over time, it’s all underpinned by this “unclassifiable being” who makes it her home.
This Book Has Ghosts in It is the only place where you can read “Progress,” alongside other dark contemporary fantasy stories and poetry (and one or two that don’t quite fit that genre).
