History That Never Was

It’s time for the July 2026 writing prompts!

This month, the first column is the little life July 2025 prompts from @pastichecostudio. Many of these are summer-themed prompts, but they’re also very evocative!

The second column is the Doodlewash July 2025 World Watercolor Month prompts, which was the 10th anniversary of World Watercolor Month. This one also has some summery words, but it provides a nice variety with plenty that are not summer themed.

The third column is Kick in the Creative’s Portrait July Art Prompts from 2023. These are meant to be used for art portraits, but I think they could work nicely for character features in a written piece. There are a couple that are styles rather than features, so you might need to get a little extra creative on those days.

There are also a couple of prompts with an asterisk beside them because they show up in two of the lists. You can skip the duplicates, write on the same piece for both of the days with the matching prompt, or come up with a different way to interpret those words. Sometimes, the other words the duplicates appear with might give you an idea for that. Of course, you’re also welcome to use these in whatever way works for you–there really aren’t any rules!
