“Homecoming” in This Book Has Ghosts in It
“Homecoming” is the first story in This Book Has Ghosts in It and includes elements of my ongoing interest in writing about the dangers of deep water. Though this story isn’t one of my “things in the water that want you dead” stories, there’s certainly something strange about the water and the town it touches.
The story has a main character who has moved away from the small town where she grew up returning for her high school reunion. There are creepy driftwood masks, strange gatherings on the beach at night, and a former best friend who’s grown distant. Throughout the story, the main character is increasingly spooked by things going on, but she stays for the reunion despite her better judgment.
“Homecoming” is one of the previously unpublished stories in This Book Has Ghosts in It, but I felt like it was the perfect piece to open this collection. I think you might agree when you read it!
