Fun for Friday: The Big Pink Book of Prompts, “It’s Funny …”
Time to share what I did with prompt 3 from the Big Pink Book!
I’m not much of a puns person, so I took the “It’s funny” prompt and came up with some first sentences connected to that. Even though there were 20 dots on the page, I only wrote 10 sentences, since some took up more than a single “line” on my page. Here’s what I wrote:
- I still think about you, after all this time.
- … the things that go through your mind when you’re facing down your imminent demise.
- No one expects the “normal” friend to . . .
- turn out to be an alien.
- save everyone.
- be a monster.
- have the weirdest secrets.
- … the way laughter bubbles up at the most inopportune moments.
- … how all conversation stops at the exact moment someone (loudly) says something awkward.
- I never realized just how creepy deer can be.
- … the way a different coffee order can change your whole day (or life).
- … no one actually slips on banana peels in the way they do in old cartoons. Until they do.
- I don’t think my neighbor’s llama is a real llama.
- … doing donuts on parking lots is much less fun when it’s not intentional.
As you can see from the above, some of my “It’s funny” sentences also draw on the other stickers on the page. And one of the sentences has four potential endings (and many others).
If you like one (or more) of these sentences, feel free to use it as a prompt for your writing. Even if it ends up being exactly what I wrote, I’m pretty sure that every person’s story using these prompts will be a little different!
