August 2025 Recap

Postcard from Battling in All Her Finery that I colored during a Worldcon brunch!

By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 48
Acceptances received: 2
Rejections received: 22
Stories withdrawn: 0
Resubmissions: 24
New Submissions: 1
Stories out at the end of the month: 48

I started and ended August with the same number of stories out, which is an accomplishment, especially with as busy as August was for me! I finished one new piece to send out, and I sold two pieces–one to the Reach Your Apex community drabble challenge (automatic acceptance) and one to Black Hare Press!

I didn’t get quite as much done on my to do list this past month. I wrote the new flash fiction piece, edited more Flights of Foundry videos, wrote a book review, and got my next collection set up. I also started editing a novel toward the end of the month (and finished that early this month) and wrote the beginning of a short story I hadn’t planned on. But I didn’t really get to the other tasks on my list. The two short stories fell off of my priority list, and while I started revising my contest flash pieces, they’re not done yet.

Worldcon was a fabulous time, but SO busy as well. I was there all five days, both participating on programming and attending programming. It was a wonderful time, during which I saw old friends and met online friends in person. I had a packed house for my academic track presentation, which was so gratifying to see! But by the end of it, I was exhausted and had to take some time to recover!

So in September, I’m going to TRY to:

  • Finish revising my contest flash fiction pieces.
  • Write a short story (moving).
  • Continue working on two short stories (daughter and guardian).
  • Write a flash fiction piece.
  • Proofread the novel (after it’s back from the author).
  • Do some other freelance editing for my academic client.
  • Edit more Flights of Foundry videos.
  • Review two books.

In addition to all of this, I’ve got contest tech work to do, and Flights of Foundry is coming up in late September. I’ll also be going to one more K-pop concert this month!
