My 2024 Goals!

Time to look at my 2024 goals!

I’m primarily focusing on shorter fiction in 2024, as I did in 2023, though I am already brainstorming a couple of of novellas that I might want to write as well. We’ll see if those pan out, though!

If I do stick with my focus on shorter fiction, though, I anticipate completing 18 short stories (three of which are in various states of almost done), as many as 59 flash fiction pieces (for a couple of monthly calls, a couple of short contests, and a bi-weekly contest, though I MAY manage to overlap some of these), and at least 4 poems. I also plan to do MerMay and Drawlloween again, which have the potential to net an additional 62 pieces of varying lengths. However, those MerMay and Drawlloween pieces don’t always wind up as finished pieces, so it may be fewer than that. I’ll also continue The Wayward Writer, but the pieces it suggests are almost always things that overlap with other stuff I write, so I won’t count any extra pieces for that.

If I were to keep up with all of these things and finish all of the monthly challenge pieces, and NOT overlap anything, I would wind up with 143 pieces, which is higher than I’ve done in any year previous. We’ll see how that goes!

I also plan to review at least 18 books, a couple more than last year, only because of the way the weeks fall in 2024.

Finally, I’ve got plans for publications in 2024 that involve at least one short story collection and one novella. I’ve also got a non-fiction book that I’m going to send to a couple of small presses after I’ve revised it. If they don’t bite, I may self publish that one as well. But I suspect I’ll have two new books out this year. Maybe four, if I get really ambitious.
