My 2023 Awards Eligibility Post

It’s the time of year when folks start posting lists of their stories and books from the past year that are eligible for award nominations, like the Nebulas, Hugos, and more. I’m including word count for my short stories and novelette this year, because different awards require different word counts, and it’s easy for me to grab those so you don’t have to figure them out yourself!

Flash Fiction:

“The Problem with Schematics,” Dark Stars (March 2023, drabble)

“Litany,” Dark Stars (March 2023, drabble)

“Refuge,” Home: What Is It and How Do I Get There? (September 2023)

“The Arroyo Fiasco,” Soul Jar (October 2023)

“Sunrise,” Rise: Queer Sci Fi Flash (October 2023, microfiction)

The Train Station That Knows What You Need,” Café Irreal (November 2023)

Dinosaur Seeds,” Short Circuit/Short Edition (November 2023)

“Different,” Black Hare Press Patreon/Year Five (December 2023, drabble)

Short Story:

“Best of Both Worlds,” Dangerous Waters (January 2023, 3,500 words)

“Kick in the Door and Improvise,” Tales from the Magician’s Skull (September 2023, 3,100 words)

“Family Tree,” Wyldblood Magazine (November 2023, 2,100 words)

Novelette:

Brother’s Keeper (self-published, December 2023, 10,400 words)

Poetry:

“Embrace,” Star*Line (January 2023)

“Diamond Snow,” Frozen Wavelets (March 2023)

Beneath an Unknown Sky,” Eternal Haunted Summer (June 2023)

The Whale Shark’s Stars,” Strange Horizons (July 2023)

“A New Mythology,” Star*Line (October 2023)

In addition to these pieces, I put out four story and poetry collections, of which many of the pieces were reprints, and I also released the omnibus edition collecting the three volumes of Unfixed Timelines.

I’m so delighted by all my publications in 2023. I got to do my first in-person book events in many years with TWO launch events for Soul Jar, I had a poem appear in Strange Horizons, and I had my first two solicited reprints for individual magazines’ years best anthologies!
