Recent Urban Fantasy Publications

I’ve got a few recent urban and contemporary fantasy publications that might be of interest if you enjoy that genre!

“Slime, or Primordial Ooze?” is a contemporary fantasy poem about the slime craze from a few years ago, which was published in Star*Line in January 2022.

“Promises Made” is a microfiction story about modern fae that was published in Glittery Literary Anthology Four in February 2022.

Darkened Souls” is another contemporary fantasy poem from microverses in February 2022.

Friday Jones’ Helpful Advice for Preventing Your Super-Genius Roommate from Becoming a Supervillain” is a superhero flash piece that was podcast at Manawaker Flash Fiction Podcast in March 2022, featuring Friday and Janella from Avatar of Freya (you can find the print version of this story in that collection).

“Here, I Rule” is a contemporary fantasy poem for younger readers, availabe in Not One of Us (April 2022).

Consequence” is another superhero story, though this one just a drabble (100 words), from Martian (April 2022; also in Martian Issue 4).

“Little T, Big T” is one of my contemporary fantasy flash pieces about sisters who bicker but love each other, which you can find in Grandpa’s Deep Space Diner (April 2022).

Mind the Gap” is a short piece of contemporary fantasy microfiction in Every Day Fiction (April 2022) imagining a situation on the Tube.

Not Their Real Names” is a flash piece about a heist in The Arcanist (May 2022).

I Need a Hero” is another microfiction piece, found in Theme of Absence in May 2022.

“Easy as a Bag of Cookies” is a middle grade contemporary fantasy short story involving Cerberus and cookies, from Paradoxical Pets (November 2022).
