Writer Tools: TTS Reader

One of the best ways for authors to proofread their work is to read it aloud. But it helps to read aloud with a partner, specifically having them read what’s on the page to help you notice what’s missing or extraneous. If you don’t have another human you can read with, try reading with a computer!

TTSReader is my favorite option for having my computer read aloud to me. It gives you a choice of voices and speeds–I like the UK English (default) at “Fast” speed, which is one step up from normal speech. And while it is still somewhat robotic, with occasional odd pronunciations or struggling with abbreviations, it works wonderfully for me to hear what the ACTUAL words are rather than what my brain fills in when I read.

There are other options for text to speech readers, depending on your needs, but if you want ot try an easy one, check out TTSReader.
