August 2022 Recap!

This young penguin was hanging out RIGHT by the glass, so I got to chill right beside them!

By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 105
Acceptances received: 1
Rejections received: 47 (+4)
Stories withdrawn: 1
Resubmissions: 71
New Submissions: 5
Stories out at the end of the month: 128

August felt like a slightly slower month than usual on the rejections front, and the numbers seem to bear that out. Only one acceptance, and a lot of new submissions and resubmissions, but just slow overall, quite possibly because it’s August, which is the last hurrah of summer vacations. I haven’t signed the contract for the acceptance just yet, but I’m excited about it!

The new pieces this month were a couple of flash, a couple of microfiction, and one short story. But I was also cranking out pieces for Write Like You’re Alive, so I have 29 other pieces (31 minus the 2 microfiction I completed) waiting in the wings to be revised or finished.

In addition, I finished drafts of living room and Sasha, revised the Mermay flash pieces and one of the contest flash pieces (the other two need more work still), blurbed and reviewed a book, created the cover art for Camp Haunt, and got my newsletter out. So that’s almost everything on my list for August!

In September, I plan to:

  • Complete some research for the revisions of my July novella (just the research, the actual revisions will come later).
  • Revise or finish the bulk of my WLYA pieces.
  • Revise living room.
  • Start revising Sasha.
  • Write a new short story (runway).
  • Start working on one of the contest revisions (which will be a short story, probably).
  • Write a microfiction piece.
  • Review a couple of books.
  • Do the next section in Stephen Fry’s poetry book.
  • Launch Camp Haunt.
  • Newsletter.

Quite a bit more on the list this month, but it’s all doable, I think!
