“Double Angel” in Avatar of Freya
“Double Angel” started out as a Drawlloween prompt that I turned into a Cobalt City story. This was the first of the Friday Jones/Dulcamara stories I wrote, with the main character based on the character I’d played in a Cobalt City University game. She wound up being the sensible one of the group and was a lot of fun to play, so I thought writing her would also be fun. But I also needed her to work her way into a new team, and this story was the beginning of that, with the introduction of the shapeshifter, Evan Sulla/Terra Firma.
The basic premise of the story is that Friday runs into one of her best friends, Angel/A-Girl, but didn’t know Angel was going to be in town. When she texts Angel later, Angel gives Friday proof that she’s on literally the other side of North America, so Friday starts digging.
When I’m writing in a shared universe, I’m often borrowing bits from other peoples’ ideas, so this story could not exist without Nate Crowder, Jeremy Zimmerman, Erik Scott de Bie, James Do Hung Lee, and Rosemary Jones. Many of these fine folks are also authors writing in the Cobalt City Universe, and their creations play a role in my stories inĀ Avatar of Freya, like “Double Angel,” which you can get in ebook format only!
