Outlining Advice
I’ve got outlining on the brain at the moment, as I frantically put one together for what was supposed to be a simple July project that grew into “no, put that idea down for a while and use this one”. The first idea required a bunch of research, which is done now, but also ate up a lot of my outlining time for the July project.
My go-to for outlining is Mark Teppo’s Jumpstart Your Novel, but I’ve also dipped into a couple of other books about plotting novels for some ideas. And while Teppo’s version resonates the most with me (possibly because I’ve used it and it’s worked for four novels), there are bits and pieces of other techniques I like to use as well.
While this page has a lot of links to books to purchase, there’s also a series of blog posts detailing another system for editing, up to and including a series outline. If only I had more time to get my July project outline together … but I’m sharing this now and saving it for a more in-depth exploration later!
