The Non-Player Review of Video Games: Music from Brutal Legend

I’ve mentioned before that I really love music in video games, and as someone who listens to a lot of musical genres, it pretty much doesn’t matter what game it is. That being said, I started listening to heavy metal in high school and never really stopped (yes, even now in my K-pop era). So Brutal Legend is a definite favorite of mine for the music (as well as the voice acting).

There’s a good amount of Judas Priest and Motorhead, of course, as well as a decent selection of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. But there are also some industrial metal tracks from Ministry and KMFDM. And even the songs from well-known groups are deeper cuts, rather than their better-known singles. There’s also plenty of songs I didn’t know prior to Jeremy playing the game, but all of the music fits the game so perfectly that it didn’t really matter if I knew the song or not. Listening to the game while he played it was like being thrown back to hanging out with my friends in high school, as they gently teased me about not knowing all of their favorite songs, but gradually becoming more and more of a fan of the genre. (And if any of them are secretly reading this blog, yeah, you know what I’m talking about! Thank you for buying me my first Metallica album, guys!)
