My Flights of Foundry 2025 Recap!

This year at Flights of Foundry, I was a workshop presenter, moderator, panelist, poetry challenge co-leader, and support staff. It was a ton of work but also, as always, a ton of fun!

On Friday, I kicked off the poetry challenge with a co-working and sharing session. Then I led my Intro to Speculative Poetry workshop, which was a combination of talking, writing, and sharing, followed by answering questions from some of the attendees. After a little bit of a break, I was then a panelist on a panel called “Songs and Poems are Siblings Who Like Each Other,” which was a great discussion on the similarities and differences between songs and poems.

On Saturday, I attended a fiber arts meetup, followed by panels on “Fantastic Whimsy” and “The Art of the Retelling: Old Stories with Fresh Paint.” Then I co-hosted the neurospicy meetup and hosted the speculative poetry open mic and the genre mashers meetup. Finally, my last event for the day was my chill-n-chat, where folks got to come and ask me questions and chat with me. We talked a little about what we were working on, and I got to catch up with a dear friend who showed up!

On Sunday, my first event was as a panelist on “Drabble and Micro Fiction,” where we talked about the fun of writing very small stories. We also took audience suggestions for a story and then took turns talking about how to use those elements in a hypothetical story. This was wild, because we had four audience suggestions, and I advocated for taking all four of them. And we did it! After that, I moderated a panel on “Building the Sum of Its Parts: The Joy and Challenges of Publishing an Anthology” and another on “Historical Research for Non-Historians.” The latter was in part based on my WorldCon presentation but with other panelists sharing their expertise on the topic from different perspectives than my own. And then finally, I closed out the poetry challenge with a bit more co-working and sharing from the partipants.

All in all, it was a fabulous weekend, and I’ll talk more about some of the panels I attended and participated in later on!
