The Tower in A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages
The Tower tarot card is often viewed negatively, due to its association with disasters, destruction, and trauma. However, it also has associations with sudden change, which can be negative or positive. In A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages, this is represented by a haiku and a piece of microfiction.
The haiku, called “Fire burning inside” after its first line, is connected to the destruction portion of the Tower. The microfiction, “The Battle Unending,” focuses on the sudden change aspect of this tarot card, in addition to having literal towers in the story. Here, a warrior who has forgotten their life has their memories rush back, giving them a path forward.
“Fire burning inside” originally appeared inĀ Frozen Wavelets in June 2020 but is no longer available online. “The Battle Unending” is only available in A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages and is dedicated to a friend of mine who passed away last year. Both pieces sit along other stories and poems reflecting each of the Major Arcana of the tarot!
