My numbers for 2025:
Stories out at the end of 2024: 47
New Stories Written: 30 (12 flash fiction, 8 drabbles, 10 poems)
Old Stories Making the Rounds: 117
Total Submissions: 258
Total Rejections: 200
Total Acceptances: 23
Stories out at the end of 2025: 38

In 2024, I noted that my subs were a little lower, and in 2025, they dipped even lower. My completed pieces was also lower than it’s been in a long time. Both of these things can be attributed to me having another hectic year and also finally acknowledging just how burned out I’ve been. I think that accepting that I am burned out has been a good first step in recovering from my burnout, as I feel like I’m slowly picking myself back up.

My watchword for 2025 was TRY, and I did manage to do that for a good portion of the year. Here’s my list from last year and where I got with it!

Participate in a couple of writing challenges in January and February.

  • Successful, and, in fact, six of my flash fiction pieces and three of my poems came out of those challenges. So they continue to be useful to me!

Start tackling another writing craft book in the first half of the year.

  • Successful, and it produced a flash fiction piece, a drabble, and a poem, with another exercise playing into one of the challenge flash fiction pieces, and a couple more exercises playing into stories that I haven’t completed yet.

Focus on submitting stories and poetry to markets.

  • This one fell by the wayside a bit, but I’m going to continue this goal into 2026 and try to get my numbers back up!

Continue blogging five days a week.

  • I did this for the bulk of 2025, then took a couple of weeks off in November and have returned with roughly two posts a week, which seems to be a lot more sustainable. I’m going to call that one pretty darn good.

  • Read and reviewed 17 books in 2025, which is pretty good!

So I’d say success on three, almost full credit on a fourth, and maybe half credit for a fifth. The important thing here is that I did TRY on all of them, so I’d call it successful overall!
