December 2025 Recap and Publications

Stormy sitting with me and looking so handsome!
By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 30
Acceptances received: 3
Rejections received: 12 (+2)
Stories withdrawn: 1
Resubmissions: 20
New Submissions: 6
Stories out at the end of the month: 38
My December numbers are up a little from November, as I worked on getting some submissions out into the world toward the end of the month. December is typically on the slower side in the short fiction world, so there weren’t a ton of rejections, though there were a couple of markets that didn’t respond, and one story that I withdrew. My three acceptances were two drabbles for Reach Your Apex and a flash fiction piece for an anthology coming out in 2026!
I had a couple of pieces published in December, including “Safe as Houses” in Nature: Futures, which is a post-apocalyptic robots and architecture flash fiction piece, and “Butterfly Effect” in Black Hare Press’ Year Seven, which is a very short horror story.
Most of my writing in December was getting my RPG ready for playtesting. I’ve seen it through the first two playtests at this point, and I’m excited to revise and finish it now! My players have given me some really wonderful and useful feedback, even as they generally loved the game! I also worked a bit on a short story and proofread my collection.
January is the beginning of one of my favorite flash fiction casual contests, so I’m planning on writing some new flash fiction this month. I’m also hoping to get some work done on other stories, as well as doing the layout and cover art for my forthcoming collection. I’ve also got a couple of books I plan to read and review, and then I’m really hoping to get back into the swing of watching and editing conference videos. And I’ll work more on the RPG!
