Non-American Settings in Unfixed Timelines 3
While most of the stories in Unfixed Timelines 3 are set in the United States, I have a few pieces that are set elsewhere in the world.
“Eyes of Fire, Eyes of Smoke” is the story of a mother and daughter set in the Andes of South America and relies heavily on the legends of the Indigenous peoples who make that region their home. The legend around which this story centers is connected to the Spanish conquest of South America (and other regions nearby) and the Indigenous response to that conquest. At its core, though, the story is about the passing of knowledge and wisdom from one generation to the next, which is a story that resonates with all cultures.
“Desperate and Rebellious Hearts,” on the other hand, is set in the far northern part of Norway and is set in an era during which people of that region were being put on trial for witchcraft. Those tried were frequently women, but the witch trials in Norway also heavily impacted the Sami, who are Indigenous peoples of Norway. And while the witch in my story is not on trial, she’s well aware of that possible fate as she chooses to help another character with her plight.
You can find both of these stories and the essays about the parts of history I based my stories on, plus more stories and essays, in Unfixed Timelines 3, which is only available in ebook format. If you prefer print books, you can read these stories and essays, plus everything from the first three volumes of Unfixed Timelines in the Unfixed Timelines Omnibus!
