Death in A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages
The Death tarot card represents transitions, new beginnings, and change. In A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages, this is represented by a haiku and a flash fiction piece.
The haiku, “Scorching summer heat” (titled after the first line), is a fantastical twist on changing seasons. The flash fiction piece, “The Arroyo Fiasco,” follows a geyser pterosaur named Ayrvad as zhey figure out their place in the world, leading to a transition and new beginning for zhem.
“The Arroyo Fiasco” originally appeared in Soul Jar, a fantastic anthology of stories by authors with disabilities, while “Scorching summer heat” originally appeared at Quatrain Fish, which is no longer available online. Both of these pieces are reprinted in A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages, alongside other poems and stories reflecting each of the Major Arcana of the tarot!
