Poetry in The Sidewalk Diverges
The Sidewalk Diverges includes 19 poems, which means that poetry pieces are more than half the pieces in this collection. While they all include aspects of contemporary fantasy, their themes and subjects range wildly.
Some, like “Agent 355” and “City of Sounds” were inspired by things I saw and heard in Seattle, just going about my day-to-day life, and concocted fantastical explanations. Others, like “Runny Yolks” and “The Distanced Transaction” were also inspired by real world occurrences.
Some, like “Electric Chameleon” and “One Hundred Thousand Blades” found their inspiration in imagery, while poems like “Here, I Rule” and “Lemonade, Swings, Ants, and Thrones” were ones that came to me without a clear source. There are also some darker, more emotional poems in the collection, like “The Stars Know the Truth” and some of the others I’ve already mentioned here.
