WriteHive Online Conference 2025: LGBTQ+ History in Publishing

During the WriteHive Online Conference a few weekends ago, I was the moderator for a panel on LGBTQ+ History in Publishing. This was a fantastic panel in which the panelists talked about the history of queer authors and publishers, as well as publication of books with queer characters.

Our panel description read: “While recent years have had a surge in the number of LGBTQ+ books published in the English language, the history of LGBTQ+ publishing goes back much further than just the twenty-first century. Panelists will discuss the history of LGBTQ+ publishing, reviewing both lows and highs of this portion of the publishing industry.”

One of the things I created for the panel was a Google Doc with information about the authors we discussed and some additional articles and information about LGBTQ+ publishing, which is available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-ERxPTgqn00vrjZbHKWnqs3vG3FnW4hF9_2F-IbnDls/edit?usp=sharing

The recording of this panel will be available on the WriteHive YouTube channel in a month or less, so be sure to favorite that channel so you’ll get notified when it’s uploaded!

Update 9/1/2025: the panel recording is now available on YouTube!
