July 2025 Recap

The view from my seat at Tacoma Dome for the Ateez concert I saw last week.
By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 45
Acceptances received: 2
Rejections received: 17 (+3)
Stories withdrawn: 0
Resubmissions: 20
New Submissions: 7
Stories out at the end of the month: 48
My numbers this month were pretty stable, sending out a few more stories than I had rejections and acceptances. The two acceptances were both drabbles to the Reach Your Apex community drabble, in which they have a weekly theme and publish all submissions on their BlueSky account as short videos. There were three markets that never responded (which is the +3), and my new pieces were five drabbles, a poem, and a flash fiction piece.
I also wrote three new flash fiction pieces for a Codex contest, which is not quite over yet, so I won’t share any more details on those. But I’ll be revising those stories in the coming weeks so I can get them out into the world, too!
For my July goals, I didn’t quite finish drafting either of the stories I’d planned to, though I made some progress on both. I did an initial revision pass on deer, but I’m sitting on that one for a bit because I’m not sure if I like the ending or not. I wrote my planned flash fiction and drabbles, finished editing my collection and created the cover art, edited more videos from Flights of Foundry, and only wrote one book review, because I’ve been slow in reading recently.
In August, I’m going to try to:
- Finish revising “deer”
- Finish drafting “boy” and begin revising it
- Revise my three contest flash fiction pieces
- Write some drabbles and a new flash fiction piece
- Get my next collection set up for pre-orders
- Edit more Flights of Foundry videos
- Write a book review
I’ll also be participating in Worldcon NEXT WEEK, which is going to eat up a bit of my time, and I’m going to a non-K-pop show for the first time in a while, seeing Nine Inch Nails for the third time in my life!
