My Recent Post-Apocalyptic Stories
I’ve had a few new post-apocalyptic stories out since my last post on the topic!
“Child’s Play,” published in Bullet Points in October 2024, involves interplanetary travel to a world in which survivors have taken up residence in a reinforced junkyard and an injured person on the run encounters some of the young residents of that place.
“We Dream in Color” is a flash fiction piece published in Toad Shade Zine (only available in print) in November 2024. This one was derived from a photograph of a scene in dull neutral shades, with only a road sign for any color, and envisions a world in which color has faded.
My collection of young adult pieces, Weathering Youth, which came out in November 2024, includes a few post-apocalyptic pieces, including a reprint of “The Storyteller.” “The Sky is Falling” is a flash fiction piece about the apocalypse in real time, and “Meat!” involves an odd zombie apocalypse.
In January 2025, New Maps published my story, “The Voice in the Walls,” which involves a decommissioned nuclear power plant that starts speaking to its post-apocalyptic inhabitant.
Finally, my story “Last Dam Standing” appeared in the July/August issue of Analog Science Fiction & Fact. This is a post-apocalyptic, climate change with sea-level rise story, involving aging hydroelectric dams, communities, and hope.
In addition to these recent publications, you can also find my post-apocalyptic stories in Dead-Starred Futures, Barren, and Scenes from a Quiet Apocalypse, as well as a few pieces in A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages!
