History That Never Was

July is just around the corner, so it’s time for the July 2025 writing prompts!

As per the usual, I took these from a variety of art challenges. I had a surprisingly difficult time finding some good ones for July, with the end result that these are a bit less summer themed than I expected. This isn’t entirely a bad thing, though, as it gives a more interesting selection of words.

The first column is July prompts from journalwild (which I found on Pinterest; the site it links didn’t appear to be active any more). Many of these words can work as a variety of parts of speech, which makes them a lot more versatile.

The second column is sun.vitamin’s Jul-Eye prompts (again from Pinterest; the Instagram account is private). Given the name of the art challenge, I think you can read these words in conjunction with “eye(s),” or you can just take them at face value.

Finally, the third column is @punkinpancakes’ 2025 July art challenge, which they are calling Punkinjuly. The first 16 days of the month are slightly Pokemon themed, and the final 15 days in the month are slightly Zelda themed, which can also be used to inspire you further.

There are a couple of overlaps between the columns, which I’ve marked with asterisks. As usual, you can use those prompts on the days they’re listed, write a piece across those days, or skip that prompt on one of the days (which you can do any day you want, really). Have fun and write stuff!
