History That Never Was

May has absolutely flown by, and here we are at the edge of June!

For this month’s prompts, I took column 1 from @solarwings junicorn art challenge. While the idea of Junicorn is unicorn themed, I thought this year’s prompts were nicely evocative of speculative fiction ideas, whether you include a unicorn or not.

This also aligns with column 2, which is from @arrancarfighter_designs kaijune art challenge. While I’ve taken out the word “kaiju” for some prompts that included it, there are a lot of the prompts in this column that reference specific mythical creatures from non-Japanese cultures, as well as some specific eras of Godzilla films. I’ve included links for some of the prompts with which I was unfamiliar, which means I haven’t linked most of the Norse and Greek ones (though there were a couple of Greek ones I didn’t know!).

Finally, column 3 is Doodlewash’s June 2025 art challenge prompts. These sort of round out the two columns of unusual prompts with some very mundane options, which could be used if you don’t want to work with the supernatural prompts, or if you want to use the supernatural prompts in mundane settings, which could be entertaining.

As always, you can combine all three prompts for any given day, choose one or two prompts, or just let these present you with some word association and lighter inspiration. You can either include the unicorns and kaiju or leave them out. Anything goes!
