Strength in A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages
The Strength tarot card represents strength, as is to be expected, but also courage, persuasion, and patience. In A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages, this is represented by a haiku and a poem.
The haiku, “rippling waters” (after the first line of the poem), being very brief, mainly deals with the “face value” of the Strength card. The poem, “Old Bones,” looks more at the persuasion and patience parts of the card’s meaning. It involves necromancy to deal with a problem faced by a ruler, from the perspective of the necromancer. “Old Bones” originally appeared in Common Tongue in 2021 and has since appeared in both Conceits of Whim and Fancy and A Tarot of Sorcery and Sages. The haiku is exclusive to the latter, alongside other poems and stories reflecting each of the Major Arcana of the tarot!
