The Non-Player Review of Video Games: Hey, I Know That Voice (Brutal Legend)

Several years ago now, Jeremy picked up a copy of Brütal Legend, and as per the usual, he played it while I was doing other things. This game caught my attention in part because of the music, but my main focus was “hey, I know that voice!”

I have an uncanny talent for recognizing actors across media, in part based on their appearances and in part based on their voices. So if a famous person is doing voice acting work, I can often pick them out (as long as I’m not looking at their character while they’re speaking–again, my brain is weird). And with Brütal Legend, Jack Black was easy to pick out right away. But as Jeremy played the game and encountered other characters, I recognized musicians’ voices, like Ozzy Osbourne (another fairly easy one). But then I heard Lemmy Kilmister, and I had to look up the list of voice actors.

It’s JAM PACKED with amazing talent, both musicians and actors. Though I don’t think I got to hear all of the characters during the time when Jeremy was playing Brütal Legend, knowing there were a bunch of people I like contributing the voices made me love the game all the more!

(Also, the music is unbelievable. But maybe that’s fodder for another post!)
