Coast to Coast Stars: Tales of Cobalt and Cerulean City
My collection, Coast to Coast Stars, came out almost five years ago! It’s got five short stories set in Cobalt City and Cerulean City, with the former on the East Coast and the latter on the West Coast. Four of the stories are set in Cerulean City, but one of them, “Happily Never After,” features a character from Cobalt City, who is the main character in the other story in this collection (“Comeback Tour,” set in Cobalt City, and much later chronologically than the others). That cross-over story in Cerulean City also introduces the main characters for the three additional stories–I can’t say “protagonist,” exactly, since the main character for one of the stories is the antagonist from “Happily Never After.”
My favorite thing about superhero stories isn’t usually the powers but the characters wielding them. So several of these stories are quieter stories, some of which involve the characters dealing with their powers as elements of their overall personality. There is, however, still some kicking butt, because that’s also an important element of superhero stories!
