The Non-Player Review of Video Games: Katamari Damacy and the “No Flappy Things” Rule

At some point around 2009 or 2010, my then-boyfriend (now husband) introduced me to Katamari Damacy. This seemed like a video game I could manage–all you had to do was roll a ball around the screen and let it collect random things.

However. (There’s always a however.) Eventually, I got to a level where you’re rolling the ball around outside. And this was fine, at first, until I rolled over some random bird. And the bird’s wings kept flapping, while it was attached to the ball.

This was HORRIBLE, and it also signaled the end of me playing Katamari Damacy. I also had to make the “no flappy things” rule–if Jeremy wanted to play the game, and I was watching, he could not roll over any birds or any other flappy things. Was it okay to roll over other animals? Sure, as long as they didn’t flap. Balls, Katamari or otherwise, should just not have flappy things.

Again, my brain is weird.
