My 2024 Publications for Awards Consideration

It’s the time of year when folks start posting lists of their stories and books from the past year that are eligible for award nominations, like the Nebulas, Hugos, and more. I’m including word count, because different awards require different word counts, and it’s easy for me to grab those so you don’t have to figure them out yourself!

Here’s what I’ve published in 2024 that’s eligible for awards consideration, which include nine fiction pieces and two poems. Of the fiction publications in 2024, five were flash fiction or shorter. Some of those can still qualify for awards for short stories, however, if there’s not a minimum word count!

Flash Fiction:

“The Glass Cauldron Shattered” (999 words, contemporary fantasy with queer characters) in 99 Fleeting Fantasies

“Evergreen” (832 words, contemporary fantasy with a queer protagonist) in Inner Worlds

“Dead Planet” (100 words, sci-fi/post-apocalyptic) in Drabbledark III

“Mutualism by Any Other Name (970 words, fantasy) in Factor Four Magazine

“We Dream in Color” (571 words, post-apocalyptic with queer characters) in Toad Shade Zine

Short Fiction:

“The Storyteller” (3,100 words, post-apocalyptic with a young adult protagonist) in Bikes, the Universe, and Everything

“Child’s Play” (1,500 words, post-apocalyptic) in Bullet Points

“One Person’s Nightmare” (2,500 words, contemporary fantasy) in Rescuing Curiosity (out December 15, 2024)

“It Can’t Be Sunday Everywhere at Once” (3,200 words, sci-fi) in Rescuing Curiosity (out December 15, 2024)

Poetry:

“Bad Luck for the Fates” (18 lines) in Asimov’s

“An Alphabet of Forty-Two” (6 lines) in Star*Line
