WriteHive Online Conference 2024: How to Write When You Don’t Want To (The Afronauts)

Now that the 2024 WriteHive Online Conference panels are available on their YouTube channel, I’m catching up on the ones I missed during the conference itself and sharing some of the things I gleaned from them here!

The Afronauts presented How to Write When You Don’t Want To, which was a great place to start for me, because I’ve often found myself in this boat recently. Much as the panelists suggested, I’ve had other things pulling on my attention and been feeling drained by life and the slog of the writing and submitting and rejections.

The panelists had a lot of great advice about the difference between needing a break and procrastination. They had suggestions for how to give yourself a break and how to get yourself writing when it is procrastination.

One of the biggest take aways for me was the idea that it doesn’t have to be all or nothing–even if you aren’t increasing your word count, that doesn’t mean you’re not making progress. Things like doing research and thinking about your writing are valid parts of the process.

These are just some of the highlights from the panel, and there’s plenty more fantastic information and advice from talented authors. The video runs about 42 minutes. And they also recommend a couple of additional panels from earlier WriteHive Online Conferences that you can watch for more on the topic!
