“Charcoals from an Unidentified Chicago Artist” in Unfixed Timelines 3

Most people are familiar with the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 (the one allegedly started by a cow), but Chicago is a city that has been plagued with substantial fires throughout its history. While other cities have certain had their fair share of fires as well, Chicago celebrated their recovery from the 1871 fire with the 1893 World’s Fair … which also had a couple of notable fires during and after.

It was this history of fire shaping the city of Chicago that inspired “Charcoals from an Unidentified Chicago Artist.” My unnamed artist plays witness to multiple Chicago fires with uncannily prescient charcoal sketches. The essay that accompanies this story in Unfixed Timelines 3 explains each of these fires with slightly more detail than the fiction allowed.

“Charcoals from an Unidentified Chicago Artist” was originally published in Community of Magic Pens, but it can also be found in Unfixed Timelines 3 and Unfixed Timelines Omnibus with the accompanying essay!
