History That Never Was

Time for another month worth of writing prompts!

It’s my favorite time of year, MerMay, so the first column is the MerMay 2024 prompts! MerMay is a mermaid-related art challenge, so all of these words are meant to be combined with merfolk of some sort. There are a couple of named individuals in this year’s list, so you may need to look them up if you’re not already familiar with them.

The second column is the May 2023 prompts from Doodlewash, which I didn’t include in last May’s prompts. This one has some specific animals with which folks might not be familiar, depending on where you are in the world.

Finally, the third column is from Natural Beach Living, which is one I’ve used before on occasion, but not this particular list. I’ve modified a couple of their prompts to be single words or shorter phrases, but you can always find their full prompts at the link above.

There’s a bit of overlap between the lists this month, as it seems a lot of folks have warm weather and comforting things on the mind. I’ve put asterisks in the places where there’s either direct or indirect by thematic overlap, which includes an asterisk on “mermaid” since all of the MerMay prompts are ostensibly related to mermaids.
