Fun for Friday: Images from Meow Wolf
On our recent roadtrip, we ended in Denver, where my youngest sister really wanted us all to go see Meow Wolf. She had previously been to the one in Santa Fe and enjoyed it, and I’d heard great things about it from my friends. So we went!
If you’re not familiar with Meow Wolf, it’s primarily a multi-artist art installation, but there’s a story in the art and the layout. The Denver Meow Wolf is also called Convergence Station, and it involves four alien words having collided with one another.
This week’s selection of pictures are from the C Street entrance and nearby. I’ll provide more details below!
The first photo depicts a second story door with a short fence around a very narrow balcony. Below the balcony is part of the neon sign identifying the building as The Gyre. The right-hand door bears a sign with a red pentagon above the words “I feel safe,” an orange triangle above the words “I am safe,” and a yellow circle above the words “This is safe.” (From elsewhere in the exhibit, we learned the The Gyre is a place where anyone from the collision of worlds can be given an apartment.)
The second photo depicts a slightly torn concert poster advertising “The Eternal First Kiss Tour.” Below the tour name are the sentences: “The wait is almost over. Beam up and get ready to kiss forever.” Below those sentences are depicted five apparently masculine outlines in different neon colors, one of which has a tentacle, another of which has overly long arms, and a third of which has a tail. The names of the five figures are all variations on the name “Cody.”
The third photo depicts a white sign with narrow rainbow lines defining a triangular shaped wedge on the right. The sign hangs on a brown wood paneling wall. The sign reads: “The Cycle. The Cycle is never-ending – always renewing. Things become soiled, are cleaned, then soiled again. If we do not clean them, they remain soiled forever. Never renewing. By cleaning we push the universe forward in its Cycle of renewal.” In the bottom right corner of the sign, a yellow circle depicts the outline of a hand in a basin of water, surrounded by the words “Birth. Death. Rebirth. Birth. Death. Rebirth. Death. Rebirth.” (This sign was located in what is possibly the creepiest laundromat I’ve ever seen.)
Hope these signs and posters inspire some great writing!
