My 2023 Goals!
It’s time to look at my 2023 goals!
Because I’m steering away from working on novels, my plans for writing shorter pieces are a bit more ambitious. I’ve currently got 16 short stories planned for the year, for which I already have at least a little groundwork done on most of them. I’m clearing out a lot of “work on this later” stories so I’ve got more room for newer ideas!
I’m also planning to write at least 20 flash fiction pieces, between monthly challenges and online challenges. I’m hoping to write 12 microfiction pieces also. I plan to write 4 poems for an online challenge. And then in the less definable stuff, I’ve got theoretical time to write about 75 other smaller pieces of some variety–31 for MerMay, 31 for Drawlloween, and 13 spread out over the rest of the year.
If I write all of this, I’ll finish out the year with 127 new pieces, which would be more than I finished in 2022, and also more than two pieces a week, on average. That would be pretty impressive!
I should also review about 16 books, not counting the various writing craft books and other miscellaneous books that are tangentially related to writing craft that I’m working through. And I’m also continuing to work on sections of Stephen Fry’s book on poetry! So lots of reading and learning on top of all that writing.
In addition to writing new stuff, I also have plans to put out five new collections this year, in February, April, June, August, and October. The collection for February is a contemporary fantasy collection, The Sidewalk Diverges. The collection for October is Unfixed Timelines 3, which will be more alternate history and essays. The other three will be sci-fi, steampunk, and post-apocalyptic, but the exact details and titles on those aren’t solidified yet!
