History That Never Was

A butterfly landed on my arm while we were walking through the butterfly house at Woodland Park Zoo. They really seemed to like hanging out with me, so Jeremy got some great photos!

It’s nearly August, so it’s time for the monthly writing prompt post!

This month, column 1 is random words, while column 2 comes from the Doodlewash August 2021 list, and column 3 comes from Redfox the Kitsune’s Smaugust 2022 list. Both Doodlewash and Smaugust are typically art challenges, but much like I do with MerMay and Drawlloween, I like to convert the art challenges into writing challenges for myself.

And this month, my additional challenge is the “Write Like You’re Alive” challenge! I think this is the fourth time I’ve participated in this month-long challenge of daily writing, which started with Zoetic Press and has been sustained by some of the participants in the early events. I will likely be writing mostly poetry, but I’m giving myself the addition challenge of using the words as PROMPTS, but trying not to include them in my actual pieces–letting them inspire rather than direct what I write. We’ll see how that goes–there are some days where I might just use the words themselves because they’re evocative words! But no matter which way I go with it, I should end the month with a lot of new pieces, and some of those pieces will go into a collection put together by one of the participants!
