If you’re looking for a random writing prompt, the folks at DIY MFA have a “writer igniter” that provides you with a character, a situation, a prop, and an image for the setting. The ideas won’t necessarily be immediately speculative, but you can always tweak the elements until they are, or write a story that isn’t speculative at all!
