August 2020 Recap
By the numbers:
Stories out at the beginning of the month: 114
Acceptances received: 1
Rejections received: 46
Stories withdrawn: 0
Resubmissions: 28
New Submissions: 29
Stories out at the end of the month: 123
This month was a little slow on the resubmissions front, but I submitted a ton of new poetry and a couple of new stories. My one acceptance for August was very early in the month, and the story was published the same week: “The Dark Forest Takes” at Wyldblood.
Otherwise, August was fairly busy for me. I didn’t write a flash piece for the final week of the contest, but I did write one of the two I’d planned on–a story that is almost definitely getting revised into a short story when I have a chance. I finished the first draft of Marsh 3, and am getting into revisions on that this week. I had to throw wolf on the back burner, but I finished revisions on dresses and my first flash piece from the contest (the two stories that were new this month). I also revised all 27 of my poems from July and got those on submission.
And on the books front, everything is swimming along. Unfixed Timelines 2 is completed and releases on September 15th. Spiders of the Shifting Swamp is awaiting a proof copy so I can see my artwork printed! And I’m about halfway through proofreading Lady Huntsman, and will wrap that up next week. I also threw beagle wizard on the back burner, because I realized that as I had it plotted out, it wasn’t a very dynamic story. So I need to write up a new outline and write that new book later.
In September, I need to:
- Revise Marsh 3 and the second flash piece (codename: heist)
- Write one new story (TBD1) and start another new story (TBD2)
- Finish proofreading Lady Huntsman
- Review a book
- Write some flash or poetry
It’s a fairly light month in terms of the workload, but I’ll be releasing one book and working out the details for two more 2020 releases (early October and early November), so I think it’ll keep me plenty busy!
